Caelwick’s four classes begin with different relationships to combat. Each finds strength in a different place, and each asks you to manage a particular tension. A party’s identity emerges from how those relationships work together.

Shield Warden: protection becomes power

The Warden’s shields turn absorbed damage into charges for attacks. Protecting the party creates an opportunity to retaliate. A punishing fight can arm the Warden, while a quiet one offers little income.

The central decision is when to spend. Charges earned by surviving pressure can become offense, but an available attack does not automatically make it the right moment to use one.

Weapon Master: commitment has an edge

The Weapon Master fights in a stance. Strikes leave marks, and continuing in the same stance builds on that work. Changing stance changes the available approach. Existing marks stay behind and keep expiring; they help again if you return to their original stance.

That makes adaptation a choice. Hold your pattern and capitalize on it, or build a new pattern because the encounter now needs something else. A fight that keeps changing can leave the Master rebuilding.

Elementalist: every spell sets the next

For the Elementalist, the value of a spell depends on what came before. Elements leave residue that other elements can exploit. You are choosing an action and preparing an opening at the same time.

A sequence needs the right target and enough time to matter. If an enemy falls before the chain finishes, part of the setup is lost. The class rewards reading where the fight is going, as well as what is happening now.

Wellspring: stay where the fighting is

The Wellspring gains charges when nearby creatures first become bloodied and when nearby enemies die. Those charges sustain auras over the party or pay for immediate draughts. Income comes from these events, rather than from every point of damage.

Its reach connects position, income, and upkeep. The player has to judge what can be sustained and what the encounter will provide. When that flow changes, the aura plan may need to change with it.

Four sources of strength. Four reasons to pay attention.

Build a party around the choices

These are the classes’ design identities. Their exact abilities, numbers, and balance continue to evolve through alpha. The goal is for each class to be understandable at a glance and rewarding to learn through play.

For ability examples and practical starting points, read the four class guides.

Combining them gives the party several different rhythms. Tactics help those rhythms work together, while leaving the player room to decide when a particular moment deserves a different answer.
