The tower is the first thing you notice about Caelwick. It rises above the rooftops, a constant invitation to discover what lies further up. But the town beneath it is the heart of the adventure: a place the party can come to know, prepare in, and return to.

The setting begins with a simple idea. Adventurers come here because there is something worth pursuing. Opportunity and danger belong together. The climb should invite curiosity, and home should make its risks matter.

Development context

The early town, recruitment, and departure into the tower are now in place. The return-home loop and lasting consequences below describe the developing campaign direction. Read the current town update.

A campaign that carries on

The campaign direction gives your heroes a life beyond a single expedition. A roster holds the people who share that history, and up to four set out at a time. Their growth, gear, and the consequences they bring home help shape the next party you take into the tower.

That creates a rhythm: gather in Caelwick, choose your company, prepare a plan, and make the ascent. Coming home gives you a chance to reconsider. What did this group need? Which choices worked? What will you do differently next time?

The party changes. Home gives its story somewhere to endure.

The price of return

The developing death system makes a distinction between a hero who falls in the tower and a hero who is lost. Fallen heroes must be carried out by their surviving companions. Resurrection belongs in town, and the planned consequences include soul damage and persistent trauma.

The intention is to give survival a history. A return can be a relief and still have a cost. The campaign’s wipe setting will let players choose the kind of consequences they want to face, from returning to a floor checkpoint to losing the expedition party.

Building outward from the tower

The immediate focus is the tower, combat, and the first version of town and campaign life. The broader vision includes a party base, crafting, and portals around Caelwick leading into procedural outskirts. These are directions for the world to grow into, rather than a claim that every town service is already in the alpha.

There is room for the town’s inhabitants and customs to develop through the places and people you actually encounter. For now, the foundation is clear: prepare, venture out, and return with consequences that make the next adventure your own.
